The name of the city comes from two men, R.S. Man and Julian Feild. They built a grist mill in the area that is now the center of Mansfield. Feild opened a general mercantile at the same time, and the first post office was established . As the community prospered, it became known by the combined names of the two men, and the common misspelling of Feild’s name eventually resulted in the accepted spelling of “Mansfield”. Even though Mansfield has experienced considerable growth, Mansfield has not lost its small-town feel, and its friendly atmosphere makes it stand out in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan area.
