A few years later, when the Gulf, Colorado & Santa Fe Railroad laid track down, the settlement moved slightly westward to what is now present day downtown Crowley. The first station depot was built in 1885, officially establishing the community as a town and was named Crowley for the master of transportation for the railroad.
